Msgr. Raymond Gerard East, Pastor Monsignor Ray East is the son of the late Thomas and Gwendolyn East. The grandson of Baptist missionaries to South Africa, he was born in Newark, New Jersey. Raised in San Diego, he graduated from the University of San Diego with a degree in Business Administration.

His position with the National Association of Minority Contractors brought him to Washington, DC where he later experienced a call to the priesthood and was ordained in 1981 by Cardinal Hickey.

Father East has served in six Washington parishes before being named director of the Office of Black Catholics and Vicar for Evangelization. He is a member of the boards of Jobs Partnership Greater Washington and Food and Friends. He also serves on the board of St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, PA. He has worked in the areas of Liturgy, Youth Ministry, Initiation and Evangelization.

Dr. William Hawkins, Deacon Dr. William Hawkins, Deacon, born and raised in Washington, DC. Mathematics Professor at UDC. Ordained deacon in the Archdiocese of Washington in 2004.

Deacon Bill assists the pastor, Rev. Msgr. Raymond East during all of the parish liturgical celebrations, coordinates the sick and shut in ministries, assists in the process of initiating new members into our Roman Catholic community of faith.

The Deacon trains the parish altar servers, facilitates classes for couples preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage, and assists in the preparation classes for parents and Godparents for the Sacrament of Baptism.

Patricia Waddell, Director of Religious Education Patricia Waddell, R.N., MS. born in North Carolina and raised in Hampton, Virginia. A graduate from Hampton University and Master Catechist from the Institute of Black Catholic Studies, Xavier University.

As the Director of Religious Education here at St. Teresa of Avila, Pat organizes and facilitates activities and events, which assist and raise the parishioner's consciousness about spreading the Word of the Gospel in the community.

She manages and directs the religious education program for the parish youth and teens.

Catechist, Nehemiah Ministry Member, Coauthor for "Keep on Teaching," Catechist resource manual and annual workshop. Member of National Black Catholic Congress Parish Life Commission and HIV/AIDS Task Force. Catechetical presenter at workshops in the Archdiocese of Baltimore and the Archdiocese of Washington.

Darah Cecilia Means, Office Manager

Darah is the parish administrator providing leadership to parish staff and support to the pastor, finance and parish councils, and ministry heads. Darah coordinates the financial, facility and personnel management of the parish.

Sharon Wilkes Francois, Accountant

Sharon communicates all parish financial information to the pastor, administrator, finance council and archdiocese. She reconciles the bank and investment accounts, prepares the income and expense statements along with detail general ledger reports and disseminates as required.

Yvonne McKinney, Secretary

Yvonne communicates all ministry events inside and outside the parish (retreats, workshops, outings) with the parish. She prepares and distributes the parish calendar, and controls and schedules the uses of all parish resources.

Yvonne cares for all items related to the parish membership records and ensures accurate recording of the sacramental documents.

Joyce Baker, Receptionist

Joyce welcomes callers, providing them with information, answers any queries they may have, and directs them to the person they need to see. She greets and helps parishioners and visitors of the Parish Life Center.

Joyce prepares the weekly bulletin, parish mail-outs, and maintains the standard parish forms, booklets, packets, certificates, and cards.

Santana Robles, Custodian

Santana maintains and ensures the appearances inside and outside of all three of the parish facilities are clean, neat and orderly. He cleans and sanitizes the parish facilities at the church, Parish Life Center and rectory.

Santana opens the facilities for vendors and parishioners when needed, and makes general repairs whenever appropriate.

Avery Clark, Music Ministry Business Manager

Avery assist the Music Director in planning the music for all of the regular and special liturgical celebrations


Alva Davis, Music Director

Al directs staff musicians and the Mass Choir. He selects the music for all of the liturgical celebrations, Holy Days and other special services. Coaches and teaches music ministers at the weekly rehearsals to achieve desired effects such as tonal and harmonic balance, dynamics, rhythms, tempos, and shadings.

Al arranges musical compositions and melodic lines for the music ministry, continuing St. Teresa of Avila music tradition.
